Removing Unnecessary Data from Your Hard Drive

When your hard drive starts to fill up, your computer will start to slow down.

When you’re at work trying to be productive, the last thing you want to deal with is a slow computer. The more your business grows, the more files you will have to store. When your hard drive starts to fill up, your computer will start to slow down. Luckily, it’s actually pretty easy to delete unnecessary files and data from your computer and keep it performing well.

Perform a Disk Cleanup

If you have a windows computer as most businesses do, you can run the Disk Cleanup program. The program combs through every file and app on your computer and finds things that are rarely used or are no longer necessary. When the cleanup is finished, you select the files that you’d like to delete and Disk Cleanup will get rid of them for you. If you’ve run a Disk Cleanup and your machine still isn’t where you’d like it to be, you may just need to restart it.

Put Things You Rarely Use Somewhere Else

If you have a file or program you only use every once in a while, it doesn’t need to take up valuable space on your hard drive. Correspondence, files of former clients or employees, and other such things that you don’t need every day can be stored elsewhere. If you have anything like this, consider using a cloud storage service for these items. They will still be accessible, but they won’t be slowing down your computer.

Delete Old Smartphone Backups

Backing up your smartphone and tablet is just as important as backing up your computer. If those backup files are on your computer, they are probably taking up a massive amount of hard drive space. These backups can easily be moved to an external hard drive and accessed if they are ever needed. Alternatively, most smartphone manufacturers have their own cloud backup service for storing important mobile device files.
