Preventing Data Loss Due to Equipment Failure

If you’ve found yourself in the position of having a bricked device, don’t panic just yet, it might be possible to recover what was lost.

External hard drives and data storage are a great way to help keep your technology running smoother, but they have their own problems. Over time these external hard drives can wear out resulting in fails that can leave you with a useless brick of what was once essential data. If you’ve found yourself in the position of having a bricked device, don’t panic just yet, it might be possible to recover what was lost.

Connect the Drive in a New Location

Sometimes a simple solution is enough to fix the issue of a failed external hard drive. Before you panic, try plugging the unit into a different USB port and then a different computer. If the data has not been corrupted this easy fix may be all you need. If that doesn’t work, you may just need to reset the device. For internal hard drives, the process is more complicated, and the drive may need to be removed and connected to another computer with an adapter.

Consider Cloud and Data Backups

Working with cloud-based data backup servers may come with its pros and cons, but in the case of a hard drive failure, it can be a lifesaver. Many companies save at least some of their data to a cloud-like structure even if they are not using the full technology. Consider if you’re using google drives and more to store communications and etc. If so, you may be able to recover portions of the lost date through these means.

Work With a Managed Services Provider

Having critical hardware fail and wipe your saved data can be incredibly frustrating and lead to a wide range of problems beyond the scope of the data alone. When you work with a managed services team, much of this risk can be eliminated as you’ll have the support you need to prevent failures as well as to respond to them appropriately.
